World Meteorological Day Video Contest 2026

1. Overview

In observance of World Meteorological Day 2026 (WMD), under the theme “Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow”, the National Meteorological Service invites primary and high school students across Belize to participate in a creative video competition promoting awareness of weather and meteorology.

Contest Categories:

  • Primary School Video Contest
  • High School Video Contest

2. Eligibility

  • Open to school-aged children across Belize.
  • Students must be enrolled in a primary or secondary/high school.
  • Schools must register by Friday, March 6th, 2026.
  • All registrations and submissions must be made through schools only.
  • Each school may submit ONE (1) entry per category.
  • Each entry must have a designated teacher or supervisor.

3. Registration

No late entries will be accepted.

4. Contest Requirements

Theme: Be a Weather Reporter!

Video must include:

  1. A short weather forecast for Belize
  2. A creative highlight of the NMS:

Video Specifications:

  • Maximum length: 2 minutes (120 seconds)
  • Language: English
  • Format: MP4, MOV, or AVI
  • Content must be original
  • No offensive, inappropriate, or copyrighted material
  • School uniforms encouraged but not required
  • Adult assistance with filming/editing permitted
  • Group size:
    • Primary Schools: maximum 3 students
    • High Schools: maximum 2 students

Submission & Judging

  • Videos must be emailed to meteo@nms.gov.bz by March 8th, 2026 (midnight).
  • Email subject: WMD Video Entry_[School Name]
  • Email must include:
    • School name
    • Teacher/school representative name
    • Student names
    • Confirmation of parental consent
    • School TikTok tag (if available)
  • Videos will be posted on the official TikTok page of the NMS on March 9th, 2026.
  • Winner determined by number of likes received.
  • Voting closes: March 17th, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

Parental / Guardian Consent

Schools must confirm in writing that parental or guardian consent has been obtained for all participating students. Consent must allow use of photos/videos for educational and promotional purposes.

Schools must retain consent forms for at least one (1) year after the competition.

Judging, Awards & Prizes

  • Judging based on creativity, clarity, confidence, and endorsement of NMS platforms
  • Winners announced: March 18th, 2026
  • Prizes distributed at the WMD Fair in Belmopan City on March 20th, 2026
    If a school representative is unable to collect their prize at the WMD Fair, then they may make arrangements to collect their respective prize, at a later date from the NMS office in Ladyville.
  • Prizes awarded for 1st and 2nd place ONLY

Disqualification

  • Failure to follow contest rules
  • Late submissions
  • Offensive, inappropriate, or plagiarized content
